Weblog Ethics

In Rebecca's post, she mentions some things that I would have thought to be true for any professional company posting a weblog, but I thought wrong. Her ethics I find should be fundamental to any respected source that is covering news or anything for that matter. Publishing only something that is a fact should be common sense, responsible journalism should be adhered to even in blogs.
Linking material online to your blogs is a great idea so the reader can judge for themselves what to think!
Correcting information on your blog that was incorrect is crucial, its just like printing a retraction in a newspaper or magazing.
Also, noting questionable or biased sources should be adhered to as well because the reader doesn't know where you are getting your material from if you don't post the link....

Diploma Mills

Reacting to this article is easy! Diploma mills are not good in any way. I am glad that they now have a website that lists all accredited universites and schools. I find it rediculous that someone can apply for a job and present their future employer with a fraudulent degree, and I might not get the job if I were competing with them because of it eventhough I went to an accredited university.

Parking Ticket

Well, I got a parking ticket off of Augustine. I think it is rediculous that I have to pay this fine. There were no signs saying that I couldn't park there, and also I was never told I couldn't. Two blocks down there are signs that specifically say "NO UMW STUDENT PARKING". I know enough not to park there, I stood there for about two minutes arguing with the Fredericksburg cop saying there were no signs. His only response was that I can't park there and I need to pay the ticket and "if I have a problem I can go downtown and talk to the lietenant". He wasn't the brightest bulb in the box, so I just walked away and kept myself out of trouble. It turns out I wasn't allowed to park there but noone told me. I feel better to know that I wasn't the only student that got a ticket, there were about 30 other cars on the street that were ticketed for the same reason. Anyway, I hate tickets.

Students and trustworthy sources

Responding to reading that article, I myself always find my facts from a reputible source especially if I'm using the information for writing a paper. The line saying "Of course its true, I saw it on the internet" is not true at all. I can make a website claiming that I am a brain surgeon and give people bad advice, somone would believe that I really am. If you are looking for a good source, think about what you are writing about. If its information on current events www.cnn.com would be better than www.mitchrodiasviewontheworld.com. It is the students responsibility to find a trustworthy source.

Well, seeing as how the south got pretty messed up by all of this we compiled a list of useful resources for donations and locating lost pets in class today. It was genius.
